Dr. Perera is a Professor and Director of the Institute of Health & Community Medicine at University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). His research interest is in the genetics, pathogenesis and molecular epidemiology of clinically important viruses in the region particularly in the Island of Borneo. Dr. Perera has published more than 60 scientific journal articles in peer-reviewed journals with over 6000 citations of his work. Dr. Perera has also been the recipient of numerous research grants from several local and international funding agencies including from the National Institute of Health, USA. Dr. Perera has extensive international research collaborations and actively supervises a number of local and international Ph.D. and M.Sc. candidates.
